I have had the car for about 12 years. It has been a 7 year project up to now. John Brown (located in Piedmont, OK) and I finished the car to this point. He did most of the work though (his shop is about 3400-3600 sq feet). He did all the paint/body and chassis mods. The rear wheel openings are actually about 3" wider than a stock mustang II.

This was done to get the 26" tall M&H tires in there w/out ANY clearance problems. I have not had the car to the track yet. When I do get it to the track, I hope it will dip into the low 11's with good traction. Although the 3.91 rear is not too steep, the first gear in the TKO IS!!! The first gear is a 3.27:1!!! That is INCREDIBLY steep, so 1st gear in this car feel like a rocket ship! A normal 1st gear ratio is usually in the 2.55:1 - 2.95:1 (manuals are on the higher side, automatics on the lower side). One of the contributing factors to the Fox body Mustangs being as quick as they were was due to the T5 having such a high 1st gear ratio (which is what the Tremec based it's gearing on).

The front wind shield is brand new (about 400 miles on it). I had a new 4 row core put in between the original tanks (so the hoses would still line up). Together with the SPAL fan & 180 thermostat, this car runs right on the mark. It hardly ever strays from 180. On a really hot day in traffic, it MAY hit 190-195, but that would be pushing it! It looks like NEXT summer will be my year to really drive this darn car (I thought it would have been THIS summer, oh well!).

To have headers built like the ones on mine, you would need to ditch the motor/frame mounts in favor of a motor plate. Mike Duffy of MDRC (mike duffy race cars) built the motor plate, headers, shifter and trans crossmember. He is the BEST in the OKC area!!!! He builds whole dragsters! His TIG welding is awesome, some of THE best I've seen!

As far as the rear end goes, I went to a salvage yard and picked up an empty 9" housing (no axles or 3rd member) for $35! I had an "N" type 3rd member set up with 3.91 gears and put in Strange axles. The 9" was narrowed to the same width as the previous 8". The leaf springs had to be moved in about 3" to make clearance for the tires. Then the fuel tank had to be moved in also (this required some cutting and welding). The shock mounts had to be fabricated. We used Corvette shocks for the rear (just because they fit). We also hung an electric Holley pump and Fram filter next to the tank. The fuel makes its way to the carb via 1/2" fuel line. It is set to 7lbs of pressure. As far as starters, I use an OEM starter. It has never given me any problems (yet). I had the fuel tank refurbished not too long ago. It was coated inside and got new seals, a drain valve AND a 1/2" outlet. The original outlet was welded shut.

The 3" exhaust/Flowmaster 2 chamber combo sounds AWESOME!!!!
