Easier Header Panel Removal
If you've ever tried to remove the fenders or header panel on a Mustang II, you
know how difficult it is to get at the nuts holding the header panel to the fenders.
For an easier time with less swearing and fewer bruised knuckles, follow these steps:
- Remove the hood (not necessary, but easy to do and creates less frustration)
- Remove all bolts securing the fenders to the car (don't forget the lower fender support arm)
- Remove all nuts securing the header panel to the front bracket assemblies
- Disconnect all the wiring from the car (marker lights, headlights, front blinkers)
Don't bother trying to get at the bolts holding the header panel to the fenders. They're horrible to get at.
After everything's been disconnected, have a buddy help you while you each lift
a fender by the fender lip and pull the entire assembly off the car (all three pieces!) Your
only concern in using this method is the header panel - DON'T TWIST IT!
Now that it's off, you can lay it on the floor upside down and EASILY remove those last nuts.
